Footprint
In acknowledging our social responsibilities we are working to minimise the footprint of the Small Ships Survey Company. It can be broken into the two main areas of office and travel.
The office was an easy target. Good thermal insulation not only reduced energy needs but made life in the office much more comfortable. A photovoltaic array coupled with LED lighting means that the Small Ships Survey office is powered by 100% renewable energy generated on site.
Travel is where it gets more challenging and it is estimated that the Small Ships Survey Company operations contribute about 4 tonnes of carbon to the atmosphere each year. In response to this we are revegetating a riparian site in Allens Rivulet to offset the carbon footprint. The site consists of trees that are endemic to the area and propagated on site. In addition to offsetting the carbon footprint of the Small Ships Survey Co, one tree is planted for every survey performed.
We continue to seek ways to reduce our footprint.
